If you're in to modding you can pretty much change the whole game to be something else entirely, and take out all the balance that's part of the design. Go that route if you want to take the edge off the game.

However, if you don't want to use mods or cheats, especially during Early Access where updates come frequently and systems can experience major changes (and mods can totally blow up), then watch some Youtube videos about building with wood (regular and corewood) as well as stone and ironbound posts. You can make some impressive structures with the materials at hand without having to hack your way into it via mods or cheats.

All depends on how you want to play the game. You'll hear mods being pushed forth all the time--and if that's your thing, go for it. But if you'd rather play the game as intended without the cheats/mods, then you have a lot of options for making some pretty creative builds.
