EDIT: Shaggy you wonderful suggester person you. Whatever wild buried setting was causing the issue, a full reinstall seems to have done the trick. Can't believe it didn't occur to me to try that sooner. :)

A lot of times a single file or setting can get corrupt, if future updates to the drivers do no include that file or change it etc, the problem remains and will pop up when called upon by certain games.

Most people just use the uninstaller provided which does not remove all traces of the drivers so the issue is never fixed. Programs like DDU remove everything.
