I actually did that on purpose when I was looking for acorns and didn't need fine wood. I would have loved it if fine wood yielded more coal though. It's hard to have 4 smelters constantly running, you constantly need to farm wood

if you are going to go big with smelters/coal consumption, you need a surtling farm.
