I know food can effect taming, not sure on healing.
Throwing lox meat at wolves made green hearts and seemed to tame faster.
I don't know about the healing though if different foods have different effects, but I would assume they would.

Ah. Forgot to ask if they where in a pen or let loose outdoors. Big difference there.
