There's little reason to go out to Ashlands or Deep North, but there are some things like drakes in the north (AFAIK, never checked) and surtlings as well as meteorites in the south. I'd think they are going to make ocean updates compatible with existing worlds, since most players have explored them long ago already, but anything is possible with early access games.

Starting a new world is a decision only you can make. I've grown too attached to mine, both the "natural" world and environment as well as my own constructions, so even if I could do several things much better on a new world, I don't think I'll ever move over unless it becomes entirely incompatible with new content.
