they should really add something less meta than workbenches to keep monsters at bay. Like, scary totems or somesuch. Or an advanced variant of the Odin statue: the Thor statue, that acts like a sentry and zaps enemies.
I realize i could just make a massive wall of earth (trenches are not an option since that base is practically at sea level) but that'd be kind of an eyesore...
