Interesting. When I do this in the meadows, the wishbone only goes silent when I smash the wooden chest. Just taking whatever is in the chest never seems to be enough.

Yeah meadows is a different biome. The chest doesn't always contain a silver necklace so there its the chest that triggers the wishbone.
