Yes, perception may be slightly different from actual behaviour. You should go and read some pages in the Valheim Fandom, if you don't care for too much spoilers (about metagame). Here, you can learn everything you want about how and when monsters spawn, whether they'll act as guards or will bee-line toward the player (it's called a raid), their chance to get levels, etc. Use the in-site research tool, because not all pages are listed in the initial menu.
