We won't know when 1.0 is coming until its coming. That being said they still have 2 land biomes to complete before that, and if they keep up with their plans with the ocean, that as well. Minimum 6 months per biome.
The earliest reasonable estimate would be 2 more years of development. Which is on par with the average of about 5 years total dev time for a game. Reasonably it'll probably be 3, since they're pretty through with bug fixing.
