This has been brought up before and I think its a valid point Also... Can we all agree that the blast furnace looks awesome and should ALSO be backwards compatible with iron/copper/tin? I sure would love replace the regular smelters with the blast furnace, for looks AND for the simple fact that both loading portals are on the same side.
