Sometimes It's actually better to do dirt floors. Fire doesnt exactly mix well with wooden flooring, so dirt (or something like stone) is preferred for the hearth of the house anyway (just remember to make a chimney/flue as well, smoke indoors can be a problem). Otherwise the main advantage to flooring is evening out the terrain, which is usually more of a concern in the early game before you can just, you know, do that yourself.
