Wolf spawn points are all located below the obsidian line so small mountains will work just as well as large mountains (perhaps better since you won't have drakes and golems trying to kill the wolves you want to tame). 1 and 2 star wolves only spawn at night and despawn at sunrise (they seem to spawn after midnight rather than before). Once the wolf starts taming it won't despawn. If the sun rises after you've gotten the wolf in the pen/pit but before it starts taming stay there where you can see it. It won't despawn if you are still within its perception range. thx for the feedback, i guess ive just been unlucky then and ill just have to go back there once i feel patient enough to stay in one and the same spot for for long
