Either you're right and it's because your laptop's battery is running out, which shouldn't happen so this would be a hardware issue, or you're completely disregarding the fact that your laptop is overheating and that causes it to shutdown.
Laptops are absolute ♥♥♥♥ at cooling themselves, which is why it's not recommended to game on one without a laptop cooler, and even then heat is still an issue.
I don't know man. Some of those newer laptops have some pretty beefy cooling. Bought my wife a Lenovo Legion 5 the other day so she'd have a gaming laptop while out of town and was very impressed with its cooling set up. Two large bottom intakes and 4 large side exhausts.
What does concern me is the 230w passively cooled power brick. I warned her to make sure it was in a well ventilated spot while gaming on it. Might design and 3d print her a stand for it to help with natural airflow.
All that said, yeah laptop cooling is going to be totally dependent on the model though that Legion 5 has made me reconsider my generally negative view of gaming laptops.
