If the OP want's to do a "danger run", they I don't see why ML would even be an option, considering that there's a lower-level biome available for the same purpose.

I would also add that you should map your strategies to the conditions, not hope for conditions that match your strategies. If you don't have any cold resistance, mountains would be bad for a "danger run", so should we change mountains so that we can run through it when we're at black forest level?

As for how it generates. I agree, and call it the "Mistlands Ring" that makes it very difficult to get to places in the outer portions of the map. That said, again, that's not really an issue here, given the plains access.
