Creatures produce offspring only when paired with another who is "ready to breed", but both of them can (and will) produce offspring. Example: feed two tamed boars, and they both produce offspring; two becomes four. They don't even have to touch, only be adjacent.

Animals in this world reproduce asexually; it just requires more than one to start the process.
