Independent of resource availability, the mining (in all forms) long outstays its welcome.
Needing players to harvest wood/copper/iron/silver from locations that no longer pose a threat quickly turns fun exploration into tedious grind.

Hopefully the devs recognise this shortcoming in their biome design & difficulty curve.
