M.Red replied to All the fake "realism" in this game and there's still so many completely ridiculous unrealistic things. December 25, 2022 @ 5:01:28 pm PST
Everything takes stamina. Everything has durability. Every single thing is manual, there's zero quality of life on anything, so you spend hours doing manual labor, farming, fixing, blah blah blah. Fires put out smoke to choke you unless you build chimneys, wood rots in the rain without a thatched roof. There are so many systems tediously designed to make sure that everything in this game is a chore. Every time I start to enjoy the game doing the actual cool stuff, here comes hours of chores that I have to do to prepare to go do cool stuff.
And I could put up with it. I could learn to put up with it even though it feels more like a job than my actual job when i have to sit and do all these chores.
Except the game won't even leave me along long enough for me to sit and farm and build out all these areas to raise animals and crops and all the other stuff I have to do just to have food because your base stats never change. The enemy attacks were so constant that I started using "raise ground" and thousands of stone to built troll high walls so that I could have just a few moments of peace.
Nope. All that BS realism and I just watched a troll swing a log, clip it straight through a wall made out solid stone, and hit every structure behind it. Just straight through the wall. I have built an insane amount of walls, extending them out into the sea, just to pray that the game will leave me tf along long enough to plant some gd carrots and a troll just shows up (despite me being in meadows.) and clips its weapon through my walls, to hit everything on the other side.
I do not see how anyone could possibly enjoy rebuilding the same gd things over and over because the devs think it's fun to just destroy everything you build.
well done, you got the basics of a survival game
especially when the game is per definition "a hard survival game"
i love the way Valheim does its job - just a different way to survive
so maybe Valheim is not your cup of coffee because it does things in ways a "normal" survival game would not
nothing needs to be done fast, no rush and no hunt for epics
one has to take some time, but got rewarded with epic scenes on every corner
and most important is the fact
Valheim is still under development
