Yeah, but the option to keep my inventory on death would make it so that I, a solo player, wouldn't have to just look at that jolly roger on the map and accept that my best gear and food is there now and I won't be getting it back in any meaningful amount of time and grind more supplies to get back to the state I was at... AGAIN. Just made two corpse runs escorting my buddies who each died at different spots while unprepared and undergeared for the biome. Death happens, but it's recoverable and entirely avoidable with practice and effort.
you can always get your tombstone back. sure you might die again trying but youre protected from skill drain after death anyway. its not like the gear disappears when you die again like souls do in dark souls. i died a fair amount myself during my first swamp trip in this game. the map still tells tales of it with all the death icons.
but with a bit of careful planning or makeing sacrifices you can always reach your tombstone.
remember to always make a backup portal when you arrive somewhere new as the very first thing so in case of death you can return there quickly from your mainbase. or make a bed there. thats up to player choice .
but loseing inventory at place of death is not really an issue at all. now all skills loseing % based amounts on death is a bit much currently. i hope they adjust this penalty a bit. or rather fine tune it. i am fine with penaltys for dying but 5 levels at 100 for just 1 on ALL the skills even non combat ones is clearly a bit excessive currently. i blame that one on early access for now. but kinda like fighting on slope height hitbox problems this is something theyll probaly address sooner or later.
