storage space is a mess... by the current zone you have 4 pieces of armor (3+cape), weapon, shield, hoe, axe, pick, harpoon, craft hammer, bow, ammo, 3 foods, possibly a potion. If playing the new stuff weapon/shield become 3-4 weapons you swap around. You may also be hauling portal materials, and that is not to mention your other item (eg belt) or alternates (eg light hat). You can of course keep going to a base and swapping items around, eg maybe you don't carry your hoe in the plains but do in the swamp, maybe you don't carry a bow and ammo all the time but do in the ML, ... even so you are usually talking dropping off 3 or 4 items and having to make trips to get them back again as needed all the time. Could be you need a cultivator too, since you now have at least 2, if not 3 farms.

and the number of required things is slowly increasing (eg the 4 weapons or needing potions more after first few zones).

The way you describe it, you may as well drag a cart along every time you leave your base! You got way too many items on you, that's for sure.

If you set some priorities, you will be able to come by with carrying around a lot less.

First of all, for exploration you basically need your armour, belt, bow and one stack of arrows and either a 2-handed weapon or weapon and shield, a hammer and an axe.
Add to that healing potions, 3 kinds of food and stamina potions and you're all good.
That means 16 out of the available 32 slots, of which 8 items are actually stored in your quick slots.

Out of the other 16 slots, you may most likely use 3 more slots for portal materials, leaving you still with 13 slots to pick up the drops of the things you kill. And unless you plan to carry 13 slots of metal, stones or wood, you will more likely run out of carrying weight before you run out of space.
Not to mention, depending at which boat you use for travelling, you got 4 or 18 spare slots available; making it even easier to transport items.

The key is settling at convenient spots.

Your first base should be at the meadows, but close enough to the Black Forest - and possibly swamp - to get there without too many problems.
That way, the only extra items you need to bring along are a pickaxe and for the swamp the hoe and Dvergr Circlet.

Considering you had 13 slots when using the basic items, you still got 10 slots left for loot if you venture in the Swamps.

For plains, you will need the basic items and once you've set up a new base camp, the hoe and the cultivator. But you won't need the Dvergr Circlet. And even the hoe and cultivator are only used for a short while. Meaning it won't be too much of a hassle to use the portal to jump to your main base, get the cultivator, do the farming and leave the cultivator there.
More important, you can easily drop the items you don't need for exploration in a chest at one of your secondairy bases; leaving enough room for other items.

If you don't do that, you may need a 100 slot back pack and still running out of space.
