Not exactly what I said but in the same spirit. I have an almost pathological aversion to the taste of onions. Chomp down on a piece of onion, raw or cooked, and I am off my feed for the rest of the day. Makes life in a area where at least half of the restaurants are Tex-Mex interesting. Not real fond of turnips either but I can tolerate them.

If the developers figure out a way to replicate the taste of the food my Viking eats, I'll have to find another game.

Taking a ham and cheese sandwich as an example (Fig. 1), we might imagine that people with sensitive alleles might differentially detect the mild sweetness of onion (TAS1R3),89 the savory glutamate taste of tomato (TAS1R3),98,100,170 the bitterness of watercress (TAS2R38),50 the smell of cheese (OR11H7),154 or the boar taint odor of ham (OR7D4).153

Some people also have allium sensitivity (i.e. their guts respond more severely) - allium is a compound in fresh onions and garlic. Another possibility.

Might also be psychological, but at any rate I assume you'd rather chomp down on an onion than on a sea serpent that has been bioaccumulating heavy metals in its body for thousands of years or human entrails that have been rotting for about the same amount of time
