What I really needed was:

Not a Pause Button to avoid the situation altogether;

Not to be resurrected with the gear I was wearing when I died.

Not to be resurrected with a smaller skill loss or no skill loss at all; but,

A new character animation.

My viking needs to be able to "moon" an enemy or group of enemies to get their attention faster. And maybe Tattoos. I once knew a British sergeant who had a large eyeball tattooed on each butt cheek. Talk about world champion mooning.

I am in no hurry. I can wait until you finish the other biomes and bosses to complete the game. And the scuba gear, AK-47s, space ships, magic wands and whatever to satisfy the whiners. But I would really, really like that "mooning" animation.
