Fully upgraded iron gear and you were 2 shot by a wolf? Definitely not an armor issue.. that is a health issue.. Iron gear is literally made for exploring and conquering the Mountains. Sure you can replace it with silver.. but that is the gear you will be starting with and should have zero issues with the Drakes, wolves, golems or boogy men in the caves.
