There are a lot of changes to progression you may not have noticed with an old character.

I think you really shortchanged yourself there.

I mostly agree - a new playthrough should be with a new character because Trolls etc should always scare the hell out of you the first time you meet one. Though I understand why some people want a New Game Plus-like experience.
