“Survival” is a pretty loose term to use as a description of this game, since one of the major elements of survival is starvation, which cannot happen in Valheim.

I've heard that mentioned before, maybe it was from you. Where did you get that definition? That may be a common element, but it's not a defining characteristic.

Even if it was, just because you can't die in-place due to starvation, food consumption is a key survival element.

Clearly it has all the classic survival elements. You are dumped into a hostile world with nothing. You have to forage to survive (including food). You have to build defenses against the enemies.

They layered biome progression and bosses on top of it, but that doesn't change the underlying survival aspects of the game.
There are enough elements there to consider Valheim “survival”, but like I said, it’s a loose way to describe the game as a whole imo.

I say “conquest” is a better term that captures the overall theme of the game, as unlike with other survival games, the elements are not your biggest enemy.

Now, how would I define “conquest” as a theme for games? Well, ultimately it’s just the act/process of “conquering”.

All throughout the game, it’s a constant process of getting better gear to better combat enemies and to take on bigger challenges.

That’s ultimately what brought be to this game, and I do find those elements enjoyable, until I get bogged down by other certain elements, but I’ll leave those out to keep this on topic.
