Well you also have to run back and get your stuff (which honestly I consider a worse offender), but that's not exactly difficult to do at a build site.

Some of the issues like running back to your corpse can eventually be solved, like the option in Minecraft where a player can keep their inventory upon death. Mods can do that now. Besides it would be more meaningful for players to decide and co-ordinate how they as a group will play the game.

Basically if you don't like the rules, it's really not the developers fault any more, it's other players who you have an issue with.
