My wife and a female friend of ours use the female form. The game is "low polygon", so neither the male nor female have much option to change beyond hairstyle and skintone.

We do end up using the same level gear, as we are working this all together, so it ends up "guys have beards and are wider, gals are thin and don't have beards, and everyone hides 'helmet hair' " Beyond that, I've followed the friend on a hunt thinking I was following my wife, and we had a good laugh about it. I wasn't watching the overhead playername at that moment, just doing what my wife told me to do... with the wrong person.

Which in battle happens, and it's a pain in the butt. But we all talk by Teamspeak, we are all good friends, and pretty relaxed.

So... it's a low poly game, it doesn't have much customization, and buried in all the same gear, you are not going to easily tell between players of the same gender. The lack of customization on articles of clothing will challenge your skill at roleplay, but in my opinion this is certainly something you and your friends may enjoy. Unfortunately, my wife and friends just are not up for a "pure roleplay" kind of game.
