The cheesy part for me though is that it totally bugs out the raids, it literally lasts like 10 seconds of them standing still before they run off.

While raids can be destructive and annoying, I still love them, but I love extreme terraforming as well.

so I hope they find some kind of middle, like someone suggested, high jumping mobs, more flying mobs, trolls and other mobs with pickaxes like you mention. There a lot that can be done.

As it stands though it feels more like an exploit than utilising the terraforming feature. ( for me at least ).

It is not the only way to protect a base, build walls, two layers, add spikes inside and out. Troll traps are fun too.. this is where you build a hole and put something valuable over it, they smash the thing, kill the floor fall inside.. good times.

But my personal favourite way to defend is to kill the mobs myself.

I understand that, from the gameplay perspective. But all that junk looks awful around a careful exotic build, like the USS enterprise ship home, etc. Nothing says 'to boldly go' like 3 rings of walls around it. Lofting terrain 10 clicks and putting it up on a platform though, that fits the idea AND keeps it safe. There needs to be some sort of 'decorative base, no break it' concept, some how, some way. And there need to be 'raidable bases': this base is for the gameplay attacks and defense and pvp and whatever else, no holds barred. In the long run, maybe something like the anti-theft statue could be added that if you build it, puts a 100 radius of invincible (buildings, but not the player) down (like at the trader) and then, having given us a tool like that, 'correct' the enemy so they can overcome {gap bridge, terrain wall, moat, etc} stuff to attack you and your stuff.
