I don't think it's fair to call the developers stubborn about a feature you do not like. I've expressed a similar thought before, but remember Vikings were known for their ships and sailing. If you could teleport all ores, there would really be no need for as much sailing, taking a major component of the game and making it pretty useless (to to explore and find new biomes, if you have to)
I like the restriction because it forces you to brave the seas with valuables, and adds a layer suspense and thrill you wouldn't get otherwise. What I think they should do is make the time on the ship more enjoyable or interactive. Add NPCs to the dock that remain there until you sail, so they heave and hoe and sing songs and speak of great battles and myths of odin. Add something!
