You can swap items between worlds. At some point I had the same, done grinding. So I started a new world with my main character.
1. Main world
2. Mining world.

So, I stayed in the swamps with character in the Mining World and swapped to my Main World (in base) and dropped my inventory (ores) here.
That's kind of cheating in my book. I'd rather the game to be nice without feeling the need to do that.

How can you only use 20 silver?
20 stacks of silver = 20*30 = 600 "chunks of silver" OP has referred to. That's more than enough for a full armor set and a couple of weapons.
Getting a full set of gear seems to be a minimum requirement.

600 silver is way too much mining. No need to mine that much and I understand it bored you. I'd pace myself better in the future.
It's not way too much mining. I believe it's a bit less that what I need.
That's beside the point though : a game is meant to feel fun or rewarding. This task doesn't fit that bill.

I honestly believe they need to add more ways to get iron.

For starters, more mobs in the swamp should drop iron bits occasionally. This would allow bold players to carefully get a bit of iron earlier. They we could access the stone cutter earlier so we can use stone walls before the raids that trash wooden bases. Just maybe this would encourage players to not moat every single base.

After you have access to the crypts there should be other ways to get iron as you progress and not just the [REDACTED] you find later. As in, there should be iron found in mountains and plains too.

I'm fine with iron, the way to acquire it is enjoyable enough (basically raiding a dungeon) but for silver (or copper) ... gods.

there is a trick to mining.
If you "undermine" example a copper vain so it hang 100% free in the air and hit it 1 time.
It is more easy to mine all of the earth/dirt around the metal vaine vs mining the metal itself. your pickaxe last longer and its faster. Often the copper vain go deep below ground but most players dont see this.
Often there are allot more metal than most players discover in each vain.
Also what people also dont realize is that if you take the "wishbone" you get after defeading a boos then you can find iron and silver. Example you can find iron in the swamp area outside and not only in the crypt..
But yes later on it become harder to find example soft tissue that you mostly find inside the skull of giant skelletons scattered over the mistland biome.
There should also be some dwarf mining camps with soft tissue to mine but i never found any of them. In general mistlands just is tough due to the terrain and bad visibility.

ps. regarding being attacked by wolfs and such things in the mountain.. take some wood with you can build a protective wall around the hole you dig in.
tip. a good way to fight most creatures in the game is to block them with your shield and then hit them one time and repeat.
Also if you press C and crounch then if you hit something with the bow that have not detected you then you can one shot many animals.. Use your ears you can often hear the animals from quite far away.

For copper I usually dig at full depth. I basically do a quarry so I don't miss any of the copper blobs. It doesn't make it more fun (well, yes, at first, and copper is way faster and easier to obtain than silver)
