They've stated this would be incredibly difficult to program into the game. I understand the disappointment but don't get your hopes up.

I'm not saying I know how to program it, but it seems like they would need to add some code to certain items that allows smoke particles or projectiles to pass through. I know that, for example, 7 Days to Die has bars you can craft that allow the player to then shoot through them, so I assumed it wasn't too hard to do, but as I said, I can't claim to be a expert on these things.
