So how about this: Comfort still gives you enhanced stamina recovery for X amount of time based on the comfort level. Items of the same type no longer stack in that manner. However, EVERY comfort item (even those of the same type) adds X number of points to your stamina pool.
That addition to stamina pool would be OP. I would see myself piling up on sitting logs and other cheap comfort items by the hundreds until I had ~100 stamina just from the items, this would pretty much break current food usage

So a lot of people are unhappy (including me) about the rug comfort nerf. For anyone not in the loop, the comfort bonus for different types of rugs no longer stacks. Iron gate stated that the stacking was never intended and this is just the result of them finally getting around to fixing it. Before the nerf, there was a hard limit to the value of additional comfort items that could be added to the game since the day is only so long. (Note that the hard limit still exists but the developers have more "runway" to add additional items.)
I was not yet at that level of decoration in this playthrough but I feel the loss that has befallen on you. What is earned and worked for should not be taken away so lightly.
Still, now the rug situation is more inline with rest of comfort items so all in all, I think this was for the better. Lets face it, you can't feel rested from dawn till dusk without some (maybe craftable) stimulate.
