I tried to read it in High School. Granted, this is *after* reading Battlefield: Earth which is 1000 pages long. I got to page 80 or so and there's a part where the author spends 3 pages describing a hillside. I've never felt so disrespect while reading fiction XD. Pretty much the opposite issue I had with Michael Crichton where he's like "Jake ran up the stairs. They were gray."
