I run a server that others have played on, and I have never heard of this problem. Also, they didn't seem to answer your particular issue, since you're playing alone, from what I gathered, on the server. Also, if it's not saving any progress, that doesn't seem like just a bad connection.

That said, it could be something that I haven't experienced, and maybe someone else has seen it before.
