that's definitely incorrect. the markers stay til removed (unless you use mods). i know it for a fact cuz i tend to use them as a mementos of days i stupidly died.

on the other hand i've read that corpses despawn after some time (i believe it's 1hr or so).

If corpses despawn , it's also a recent addition, because corpses used to last indefinitely (never despawn) so you could find your body days later... I have personally done that.
