The patch a few days ago supposedly fixed a lot of performance issues, but kinda broke a lot of other things.

You can use the previous version until all the kinks are worked out of the latest update; right-click the game's name in the list, select "Properties", then click "Betas" from the list on the left, and select "default_old" from the dropdown on the right.
