If you're really bored you could somewhat mitigate this by killing moder a bunch of times so you can get tears to put down artisan tables, which for some reason have a giant radius, but obviously this isnt optimal. Yeah, I feel like there should be a way to upgrade radius for benches, either by just upgrading the workbench or an option on it that you can pour materials into to increase its radius, which would be convienant for something larger than house building.
