Portals. A player may use portals to traverse long distances before learning how to smelt or forge any metal, even before killing the second Forsaken boss. Neither any real-life Vikings nor their descendants can access or use portals. Seems to me like portals must operate through magic.

Players have access to and can use magic early in the game.
