I would suggest spacing out builds and not going too crazy when it comes to the large size ans scope of whatever you are constructing because the amount of lag when it pertains to asset loading or perhaps changes to the terrain (if still applicable) can be rather atrocious.

I played on a dedicated server awhile ago and we made the mistake to delegate a rather small island as a central hub for player houses and a rather large keep that someone made - I decided to make a small portal area on the shore pointed to an off shore base I made when I found a tiny spit of sand that I elevated with the hoe. The difference of lag from my base and traveling around the island hub was massive.
