You can also visit your old world with the new character, gear up, learn needed recipies (maybe get boss buff) and than go to your new world.
the old world got wiped - when I started after over a year break, the save was like from 5 hours in (all backups as well, dunno why) - so I deleted old world as it had absolutely nothing in that stage.
last playthrough was ~70hours, majority of that is swinging pickaxe and chopping trees.
There's a large group of "we like to waste our time" type people here... idk why but games like this attract them. Then they even have time to come here to tell people how they should do the same. It's weird.
I think they get some sense of illusory satisfaction from "earning" it the hard way and have to let everyone know how "good" they are because they're willing to spend more time sitting in a chair pushing buttons.
I think they're also afraid of the devs removing some of the grind and making the game too easy. Now that they found something to waste their time on they don't want to lose it.
So yeah, after 2 days of sluggish progress I decided to pull out my old gear to speed up catching up to were I left in the old world.
If you mention anything that makes the game easier or less tedious you will get some kind of counter response from this group. They are quite seriously in love with the grind in this game and defend it vigorously.
Maybe they don't play much else or how far more time for gaming. Me getting mostly 2-ish hours on workdays and bit more on weekends (if not busy irl) - I really see not much point in redoing gear grind at each biome tier, just because devs didn't design the world to update retroactively with new biome additions (for example by having good placeholder areas already generated into landmass which then could be swap-updated with real biome content).
