The problem is that in bronze age, the only viable shield for tanking trolls (and later abominations) is the bone shield. The bronze buckler doesn't cut it. Even with bronze armor.

I tried both.

Once you got the iron banded shield, though, you're good, and you can parry to your heart's content. :)

Edit: And no, tower shields cannot parry, only block.
