Your original post sounds like you blithely sailed away without pausing to find the answers to these burning questions.

On a long boat full with iron ore I wasn't sticking around to see if they would spawn in the boat or just in the water. I really wasn't into a corpse run out to the middle of the ocean if they got in the boat and things went wrong.

What I can say is while in the red circle I didn't see any wolves. Maybe they were running around on the ocean floor.
