It would be helpful to know what level you are, what you were wearing and your weapons. If you were just a few days in, in your nice deer armor it might be a good idea to forget about that grave for a while, and remake your stuff and level up a bunch. You will know when you are ready to face skeeters.
Going back there if you are any level below wolf armor is a waste of your time. Consider it a cheap lesson. But do try to learn from it. Start using portals, be more aware, build yourself up, process through the biomes in order and probably do less sailing to far islands until you are better prepared.
I know, less exciting but also less fatal.
Using god mode to cheese is a sure way to ruin the game for yourself.
