Stone walls help but before that a raid of those can come ( in plains do a great job if lox dont spawn near the walls and your crops in the another side )
I was afk for 5 minutes in my base with palisades and stakes and well , when i return i was in the sacrifice altar naked , so i started to use a moat , i hate earth walls because make the insanses of the game rise a lot

Sure the wood palisades are garbage, they break super fast but so does stone. The durability of buildings in this game is ridiculous, even tiniest enemies can destroy wooden structures very fast and even the stone is not a problem for most. Troll can one hit stone structures down easily.
