I use different weapons, but mostly out of habit rather than any practical reason. I carry a spear, bow, hammer, axe, and a shield. Hammer for mobs. Spears for Greylings and boars. The bow for deer and trolls. And axe only for trees.

At the beginning, it was only because I didn't want to waste axe durability on enemies. Also, because I felt bad using blunt weapons against animals that I hunt for food.
