Valheim Plus mod allows you to disable structural integrity, along with a hundred other useful things you can tweak or turn off. I highly recommend it.

I'll second the silver sword. It also helps to box him in the alter area using earthen walls between the pillars. Leave some gaps to run in to melee him and run out when he starts the meteor attack.

I have found that the patch that came after this post was up has fixed this issue. If you are still experiencing this, double check if you updated your game and server if you are playing on one.
