not currently, no. If I understand correctly however, they will be adding a difficulty feature sometime in the future that will have an "easy" mode that will not have the death penalty.

moder activation will be tied to your world file save. revert that one. It is also your chests / home/ terrain / etc file. your buffs, inventory, map, and such are tied to the character save.
