I tried targeting the meat and the station. I ended up reinstalling and it seems like it's working now.

Target the cook station, not the individual pieces of meat. Once it is actually cooked (you'll hear it sizzle), interact and it will be removed.

The meat can't be removed until it has been cooked. IIRC, removing cooked meat takes priority over any other action, too.
