Okay so considering how they're a more uncommon enemy, you should be able to pop bonemass/fire resist whenever you have to fight one, no? I had a swamp tier bow(Obsidian arrows), blackmetal sword and padded armor and dealt with these guys pretty easily. I don't recall ever packing fire resist pots either.
