The bit where you logged off means this might be more of a save rollback situation than a tombstone bug.Which means it might be the dreaded Steam cloud again.

I tamed a 2 star wolf at the meadows and it didn't despawn (Had to regrab meat) But it says on the updates night time creatures shouldn't run away/despawn :|

There are usually chests hidden somewhere in the middle. But don't dig blind use the wishbone to find the right spot.
