I think I was about 20 hours in. Go kill it. You will wonder why you didn't do so much sooner when you see how easy of a fight it is. Or at least that was my experience with every boss; aside from Eikthyr who went down in the first hour or two.

I don't mean to rush but black forest is a trap for people not willing to commit to risks. And all that stuff you've presently been enjoying will still be there when you are making iron gear and building with more materials. I spent a long time there, pushing through to try and see in this game what everyone else did, but it wasn't until the swamps that I really started to see it.

Before that I was afraid of losing my bronze weapons and tools somewhere that I couldn't get them back. Not because I couldn't make more, but I didn't want to make more. The thought of spending another minute on a dead activity like copper mining churned the stomach. Instead I spent a huge chunk of that 20 hours building up my own little one-man village, procrastinating my way out of seeing the game proper. I had worked so far into my village using just wood, that when it came time to build with stone I couldn't be bothered to retrofit it into old structures.
